Books on Islamic Jurisprudence in English―a few exceptions apart―have been geared to enabling readers with a background of modern legal thought to understand that subject. The present work consciously deviates from that tradition of writing and address itself to a different task―to introduce the reader to the rich world of traditional Islamic Jurisprudence on its own terms. The aim is to enable the reader to view Islamic Jurisprudence from within.
